Acylic Surface Maintenance Guidelines

 Daily

1.   Restrict activities on the surface to the games in which the area was intended for (i.e.. no roller-blading/skating, hockey, biking, etc. should be allowed on the surface).

2.   Black or multi-colored soled shoes should be strictly prohibited - white sole shoes only!

3.   No food should be eaten on the surface.  Oily foods dropped on the coating will "eat" through the acrylic.

4.   Avoid placing pointed chairs or benches on the surface.  Over time, these will sink into the asphalt and leave permanent dents.

Bi-Annually

1.   Pressure wash the entire surface with a minimum  2000 P.S.I. pressure washer. Contractors should be careful not to hold the washer "too close" to the surface, as this will rip through the coating. Much care is necessary in this stage. Washing should occur in the spring and late fall.  Budget price per court = $190.00 + G.S.T.

Yearly Pressure washing is the most important factor in preserving the life of your tennis court (s).

  2.   Fill all structural cracks with tennis court crack filler material.

Cracks in the asphalt base should be filled twice yearly to minimize the amount of moisture which may lead to further cracking. Budget price = $66.00 per hour of crack filling.

Each 6 to 10 Years

1.   Resurface the entire surface as per specifications. The system necessary will depend on the condition of the existing acrylic surface.   If low spots and / or structural cracks exist, the cost to correct these problems will add to the cost of resurfacing. Budget Price $3,000.00 - $4,000.00 / court which was previously coated on new asphalt. The budget price for old, cracked and water holding courts is $3,500.00 to $5,000.00 per court.

A Good rule is to set aside $750.00 / year per court for resurfacing - PLAN for a Quality Job in the future.

  2.   Replace tennis nets /center straps as the headband / mesh wears out. Budget for high quality tennis net: $220.00

  Other Contractors

If fencers, pavers or light technicians are to do work on the surface, care must be taken to avoid damage to the acrylic coating. Absolutely no equipment which might leak gas, oil or hydraulic fluid should be permitted on the surface. This includes the use of backhoes and hydraulic lifts.
